The thought of starting your nail artistry journey can be a little daunting. It is natural to feel a little hesitant using your tools, creating designs, or even working on clients. Some people even feel as though they have not really learnt anything from their first few lessons. In this blog, we want to look at some tips and tricks to help boost your confidence in the early days, as this plays just as important of a role as mastering your techniques. When a nail artist has an element of confidence, they work more speedily, with more creativity and better clean-ups.
The first thing that we should consider is to learn the basics. We need to concentrate on the nail prep, the shaping and the simple applications. Before trying to tackle the more advanced designs, we need to be sure that we can execute the basics, time and time again. When we can do the basics consistently, we are more likely to trust ourselves and more likely to feel comfortable enough to experiment with new techniques.
We also need to look at the idea that we need practice. When we practice, we are going to get a bit more confident. Although our first few sets might not always look like what we hope, they will at least teach us something new, whether it is how to manage a gel brush, how to control an acrylic flow or how to maintain balance and symmetrical. By the end, the little improvements will eventually add up and result in us feeling confident in our skills.
One of the main reasons to come and study with NailBloom Lab is that, when we are in the classroom environment, studying with a course that has been planned out for us and following the steps, we tend to get a little more confident in our skills. By following a set process, we know exactly where we need to focus our efforts, and we feel a little less frustrated when the process becomes more challenging and a little more confident in our abilities.
One other thing to look at is getting feedback on our work. Getting feedback either from a tutor or from one of our fellow students and being honest with the feedback that we receive can go a long way to building our confidence when doing a skill. The same thing can be true about getting feedback from our self as we work on a project. Getting the constructive feedback that we receive is a great way for us to improve but it is also a good way for us to feel like we are progressing, which is essential when working on the path to our professional career.
One other thing that can help us to feel confident is when we set ourselves achievable goals. Instead of expecting perfection every time, we might look at achieving just a neat and well shaped manicure, or we might focus on a design and master that one at a time. By setting ourselves achievable goals and meeting them time and time again, we are going to feel even more confident in our ability and therefore the next time we will find it a little easier to work on something a little more challenging.
Finally, the other thing to look at is that our mindset can be just as important. Mistakes are part of learning and they should not be regarded as a failure but as something we are learning from. So as long as we approach our learning in the right spirit, we will gradually become more comfortable and more confident to make creative decisions and take a risk to try something different and trust our instincts.
At NailBloom Lab, we look to not only build the skills but to also give the guidance needed for students to feel confident in their new found skills. And so by doing this, a beginner is able to work at their own pace and learn in a structured and supportive learning environment which will help us all to progress from a beginner nail artist with no confidence and build us up into a capable and confident nail artist creating beautiful nail art that is lasting and strong.
